The International Green School firstly travelled to the East with the OPEN GREEN STREAM program

Oct. 30, 2019, 9 p.m.

The International Green School firstly travelled to the East with the OPEN GREEN STREAM program

For the first time, Klym Churyumov International Green School came to Eastern Ukraine with its OPEN GREEN STREAM program. So, in Rubizhne and Bakhmut, on October 24 and 26, two training workshops were held. In Rubizhne, Luhansk Oblast, the training was conducted at Pervomaysk Industrial Pedagogical College. This institution is the only replaced college. And on October 26, the training took place at the replaced Horlivka Institute for Foreign Languages in Bakhmut of Donetsk Oblast.

Organizer:

The NGO “Open Policy Foundation” with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine and the Development Cooperation and Democracy Promotion Program of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.

Among participants of these two events, there were 135 teachers, lecturers, HEI students and senior secondary school students from Rubizhne, Starobilsk, Sieverodonetsk and Bakhmut.

The training workshops were held in a non-standard form, in the form of specific cases: laboratories, workshops, exercises, and they worked as the festival “From GREEN STREAM FEST to GREEN STREAM HUB.”

The activities were aimed to share the experience of the International Green School in creating an alternative educational space in communities. Mentors/coaches, ambassadors/volunteers, who were trained within the project, have now organized festivals independently and moderated laboratories, workshops and exercises. Together with educational institutions, they can now use these methods to organize school camps and open hubs, where the traditional “teacher–student” education model can be transformed into a 21st century education model, according to which students teach teachers, teachers and children simultaneously study in the same space.

Finally, we have managed to realize it in Eastern Ukraine. In the framework of the GREEN STREAM FEST, a true Green STREAM laboratory acted thanks to educators and students who became mentors, coaches, and ambassadors after the participation in Science & Digital [not]School at the International Green School.

So, the following Green STREAM Labs were conducted: fun coding/programming through Makey Makey, chocolate chemistry, mathematics and Easter eggs painting, mathematics/physics and straw weaving.

Ethno-workshops: Easter eggs painting, straw weaving, motanka dolls, dry felting, wet felting, birchbark painting.

And also Digital laboratories: Cool Digital Teaching/Fun Digital Teaching, during which we mastered Padlet, Zeeting, Kahoot, created landings using Smore.

And we moved a lot during kinesiology gymnastics and real Hutsul dances.

A new memorandum of cooperation between the NGO “Open Policy Foundation” and Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University fixed the cooperative work with pedagogical universities and colleges in the framework of this project. The delegation of this displaced university visited the festival. Among members of the delegation, there were the rector Serhii Savchenko, the dean of the natural sciences faculty  Natalia Matsay, lecturers and students who were trained at IGS and already moderated workshops during the festival. From now on, students can undergo practical training at the International Green School.

One more highlight was awarding certificates to educators and diplomas to HEI students and senior secondary school students. For the first time in Ukraine, such certificates, issued as a result of training by an NGO, will be taking into account while lecturers’ and teachers’ certification.

This was possible due to the signing of an agreement with the Luhansk Regional Postgraduate Teacher Training Institute in 2018.

During the training, the following results of the GREEN STREAM program for educational institutions of Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts were also presented: what has been done (training workshops, [not]schools, a panel at the Miropolis Youth Festival, methodical video materials) and an announcement of new programs of the International Green School and winter sessions.

A video clip on Science & Digital [not]School is available on the International Green School’s YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_1fyUobHgQ&t=12s.

Methodical video materials are available at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7QhlaSay9nd14LHG_ZN30A

We would like to thank for cooperation and assistance to Luhansk Regional Postgraduate Teacher Training Institute, Luhansk Taras Shevchenko National University, Pervomaysk Industrial Pedagogical College, Horlivka Institute for Foreign Languages, KNVK “School  Kindergarten”, Rubizhne Specialized Secondary School #2 and #10.
