Iryna Zhdanova: The documents developed during the training will ensure the institutional sustainability of “Donbas/Crimea-Ukraine” Education Centers

May 31, 2021, 10:39 a.m.

On May 21, the International Green School completed the first session of the training called “‘Donbas/Crimea-Ukraine’ Education Centers: Features of the Admission Campaign-2021” for managers and employees of Education Centers, higher education institutions, colleges, and vocational schools.

The event is organized by the Open Policy Foundation together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine with the support of the USAID’s “Democratic Governance in Eastern Ukraine” project.

The first session was attended by 20 educators from educational institutions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Odesa, Chernihiv, Kirovohrad regions, and Kyiv.

The training program was designed so that each training module contained as much useful information as possible, which could be used by the “Donbas/Crimea-Ukraine” Education Centers during the admission campaign in 2021.

The participants of the training got acquainted with the new legal framework and the procedure of simplified admission through “Donbas/Crimea-Ukraine” Education Centers in 2021. Svitlana KRETOVYCH, Head of the Main Department of Higher and Adult Education of the Directorate of Professional Pre-higher and Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, spoke about the exchange of experience in maintaining documentation of Education Centers. Vitaliy NOSOK, a state expert of the expert group on higher education and adult education of the Main Department of Higher Education and Adult Education of the Directorate of Professional Pre-higher and Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, said about the peculiarities of entering information about entrants, who used the simplified procedure, in the Unified State Electronic Database on Education (USEDE).

Alla ZINCHENKO, PR Manager of the Open Policy Foundation and Associate Professor of  Public Relation Department at the National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”, told participants about the peculiarities related to the promotion of “Donbas/Crimea-Ukraine” Education Centers among educational institutions, as well as digital marketing, development of communication strategies, information products and media plans of ECs. Iryna ZHDANOVA, Executive Director of the Open Policy Foundation, provided the educators with information about cloud management - offline and online SCRUM, use of Google Drive, work with Google Docs and Google Calendar.

Moreover, at the training, the Foundation presented “Guidelines on the work of government and regional hotlines, education centers during the admission campaign-2021” and the results of the Foundation’s monitoring study “Secret Client of EC” with analysis of information on educational institution’s sites for entrants from TOT.

Participants have learned a powerful training program, strengthening theoretical knowledge with thematic practical classes and brainstorming.

According to Iryna ZHDANOVA, the work of small groups in Education Cafe was very useful; the representatives of Education Centers, which have been operating since 2016, shared their experience with colleagues from the newly established ECs.

Finally, one of the most important achievements of the training was the development of a package of documents intended to systematize the operating algorithms of Education Centers.

“The training was considered, in particular, as an opportunity to develop a certain methodology, algorithms for the work of Education Centers, which will provide them with institutional memory. We organized the work of Education Cafe in the format of brainstorms in order to make the documents, we and the participants finally managed to finalize, become a tool case Education Centers can use, regardless of teams that work there. As a result, they received a “case” with tools for work, and materials, which have already been given to all participants of the training,” said Iryna ZHDANOVA.

The list of the formed package includes the following documents:

• Analysis of successful cases and mistakes in the work of Education Centers, ways to minimize risks.

• Roadmap for the establishment of the Education Center.

• Recommendations for posting materials about Education Centers on the websites of educational institutions and the structure of the EC landing page.

• Document management in the Education Center.

• Recommendations related to the Guidelines for consultants of the Government hotline and EC staff.

• Algorithm of work and detailed description of the Education Center employee functionality.

The vast majority of the participants were impressed by the five-day intensive course and everyone unanimously called it a “wow effect”. By the way, positive emotions to successful and effective training were added by a unique “anti-stress suitcase” - daily exercises, walks, dances, singing, acquaintance with Ukrainian traditions, and creative masterclasses.

“It was an extremely rich and useful training program! I would like to mention the methodological recommendations created by the experts of the Open Policy Foundation for employees of Education Centers,” said Yulia MARTOVA, Executive Secretary of the Admissions Committee, a person responsible for “Donbas/Crimea-Ukraine” Education Center at Bakhmut Pedagogical College.

“It was perfectly planned days - in terms of both training and ‘anti-stress suitcase’. Knowledge and excellent relaxation will inspire fruitful work during the admission campaign,” said Victoria DOROSHENKO, Deputy Director for Educational Work of Donbas State College of Technology and Management.

“I know today how to create a website; it is a very useful skill not only for the EC but also for the educational institution. In general, it is very nice that we have an “island,” where we can gather and get the opportunity not only to learn something but also to touch the origins of Ukrainian culture and art,” said Yulia PAVLOVA, a member of the Admissions Committee at Luhansk National Agrarian University.

“I liked very much that at such training sessions we had the opportunity to talk to representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. We can ask questions and get clear answers. Such effective communication between us improves the work of Education Centers and, accordingly, gives the opportunity for children from the temporarily occupied territories to open doors to Ukrainian educational institutions,” said Volodymyr KOROL, Manager of the “Donbas/Crimea-Ukraine” Education Center at Nizhyn Gogol State University.

“I sincerely thank the organizers of the training for the sense of fullness - intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual. And special thanks to the participating colleagues - it was a huge exchange of energy! We will communicate everything we have learned to our colleagues, share our knowledge, implement it in our own work,” added Tetiana KAZAKOVA, Manager of the “Donbas/Crimea-Ukraine” Education Center at Kherson State University.

“During the training, I gathered my own ‘suitcase of knowledge and emotions’ - skills in working with Google tools, lectures on standards and features of entering information about entrants to USEDE, gender equality and social inclusion, sharing experiences with colleagues. Each case is extremely valuable for my work. Special thanks for the invitation to this picturesque corner of the Carpathian land, to the International Green School, which harmoniously combines nature, technology, science, education and recreation,” summed up Yana KYRYCHENKO, a member of the Admissions Committee at H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University.
