The International Green School held a charity session for children and families affected by the war in the East of Ukraine

From August 7 to August 20, 2018, a charity session of the International Green School for children and families affected by the war in the East of Ukraine took place in the high-mountain village of Kosmach, Ivano-Frankivsk region. The conducting of the session was possible thanks to the support of the “Children of Hope and Love” Charitable Foundation, teacher Eric Levis and his students from the Lyons central school, NY, USA. During two weeks our green school children got acquainted with the flora and fauna of Ukraine, conducted experiments on biology classes together with assistant of the Department of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, Deputy Dean of the Vasyl Stus Donetsk National University Kateryna Reshetnyk, and also grew crystals, cooked yoghurt, chocolate and cheeses on kitchen chemistry classes with chemistry teacher Nataliya Sarana.

One of the main goals of this session was to familiarize the participants of the International Green School with the latest achievements in the field of science and technology. Iryna ZHDANOVA, Executive Director of Open Policy Foundation, the founder of International Green School, acquainted children with start-up projects, innovative ideas, and modern international management practices, in particular, SCRUM and Baby SCRUM. Green school children were engaged in engineering and programming in SCRATCH using STEM set the MAKEY MAKEY gaming which was presented by diaspora of Rochester (New-York, USA). The access to the best international practices in the fields of science and technology is impossible without the knowledge of English. That is why the participants of the IGS had a two-day Speaking Club with the Peace Corps Volunteer, Janine Wynne.

Respect for the rights of children and adults, professing the values ​​of friendship, love and mutual assistance, the formation of scientific critical thinking - this is the vector that determines the activities of the International Green School. That is why during the Charity session head of UNICEF social projects Nataliya Datchenko and social adviser of the Ukrainian Social Investment Fund Galina El Hatri conducted training courses for the participants of the IGS on the importance of teamwork, mutual support, and mutual respect, and held a lesson on the rights of children.

In addition, the participants of the International Green School studied Ukrainian traditional culture in the center of Hutsulshchyna - the village of Kosmach. For the participants of the Charity session, master classes on pottery, making vytynanka, straw plaiting, painting of Easter eggs, weaving, making cheese horses and wedding wreaths were held.
